A Christmas party card game

Part truth-or-dare,
part karaoke,
all heart.

On your turn you answer a Christmas question out loud or sing a bit of a carol, and the table joins in.

No talent required. Just a willingness to be a little ridiculous.

Two ways to make someone else’s night.

Once per game, you can gift three points to anyone at the table, at any time, for any reason. You lose nothing.

Spread the Joy

−1 to you  ·  +1 to everyone else

Spread the Joy

Give up a point and the whole table does your turn with you. Everyone else picks up a point while they sing with you or answer the question too. If you picked up a challenge card, they do that too.

Frequently Answered by the Elves

How many players?

Best with 3 to 8 players.

Do you have to be able to sing or know the words?

Nope. Enthusiasm beats pitch every time. And you can use lyrics or sing along to a recording. You don't even sing the whole song, just 20-30 seconds or so.

Do people vote on whether someone did their turn well or who did it best?

No, this isn't that kind of game. When someone's done their Truth or Carol, they've completed their turn and get their points. They've “sleighed it” already! The one exception is if there is a tie at the very end, when the group votes on a final Carol-Off.

This doesn't sound like a very competitive game if we can gift points to each other.

And it's not. There's a winner, and some people have fun getting a bit competitive about it, but that's not the main point. It's more about putting yourself out there and having a good time.

Is it family-friendly?

Yup. Designed for exactly the mix of people who show up at Christmas.

How long does a game last?

About 20 minutes.

Can I play the digital version right now?

Yes. The digital demo is live and free at truthorcarol.com/play. No download, no account. Open it on your phone and start playing with your group in under a minute. You'll still want to be live or on a virtual call with your group as this is about actually interacting with your people, not a computer.

What languages will you launch it in?

English and German are most likely to be the first languages. Tell me if you're interested in having the game in another language!
